Shooting day 10th december

Both me and my partner went out that day to continue shooting our video. We decided to do the beginning of the scene which was supposed to take place at southend seaside as it was not possible to go there due to not having sufficient time as we both have weekend jobs and it becoming dark if we leave after college.  To overcome this problem, we thought it would be best if we did the same seaside scene but near the river after playing about with the storyboard. Overall our shoot went moderately well and we think that we done sufficient shooting as we done everything according to our plan.
However whilst shooting, we did come across some problems. The first problem we realised was that the time was around 4pm, and we no that it would be completely dark in the next half hour or so, therefore we needed to come up with a solution. We then decided to first complete the river scene then as it gets dark, move to another scene which was scheduled to be filmed in a situation regardless of it being night or day.
Another problem was that we did not have the correct lighting with us in order to film in the dark, therefore we had to shoot one scene more closer to a street light in order to have our desired effect.

lonely guy he has broken up with his girlfriend, because he was unreliable, unemployed, etc. He is lonely and depressed at the start of the video, then he gets a good job, quits smoking, drinking and gambling and becomes a "better man".

This is a one of our music video snippet. This is a just a small clip of our music video how ever we are not sure if we  will use that particular clip. After this attempt of this scene, we have learnt that we need to keep the camera more still as it will make it look better and easier to understand. We have learnt that the whole of the feet should be included for a longer period of time inside the framing of the shot to create more simplicity. Just by looking and analysing this snippet, we will bare in mind the alterations we need to make when we come to shoott it again but this time with the ajdusments made.

This is our prelminary work that we did for our music we have used a variety of different shots to our advantage such as extreme close ups and point of view shots. we had also used a variety of diffrent angles of shots on the scene to add more vision and to make it more exciting and attractive

Research of CD covers

Before we actually start to make a CD cover of our own, we did some research on similar artists to our own. Because of the RnB/ pop type of genre we have, we decided to keep the CD cover really simple but effective, along with keeping the cover associated with the genre and style of music.
Here are some examples of similar genre type of album covers:

As you can see this CD cover of Neyo is a very simple cover with not too much background reflective how neat he is. Also the clothes he is wearing is very smart and classy, again symbolising his wealth. the suit he is wearing shows that he is a very flashy man as it is shiny and plain which is associated with wealth and power. You can see that he also has a fresh haircut and clean shave, that reflects  how neat he is. the backgrond is simple and we can just barely see a curtain and window. again this might symbolise that he is an entertainer with the curtains showing him as if he is in a theatre.

This is the album cover of Chris Brown who is a very similar artist to ours. You can see that here, he is portrayed as a very cool guy, for example, wearing the long necklace along with the flashy belt thus reflecting the RnB culture. Also the font of the text is very funky thus reflecing the individual himself aslo the colour of his costume being white and standing out from the black background emphasing his unique style of songs. we have chosen this particular cover as we can relate to our own  by taking ideas from covers like this.

This is also a very simple CD cover of artist Enrique Iglesias. In this cover, the only two things that are there are the artist himself in very trendy smart casual costume and the location which seems like a beach thus the beach emphasising a romantic setting. Just by looking at this, the audience can tell that his type of songs will be mainly about love and falls under the pop genre.

Shooting Schedule

Before we start shooting our music video, we briefly came up with a plan of when we will be shooting and at what location.


First scene location: Southend on sea.
We decided to shoot our first part of the music video at Sounthend seaside.
However, we were unable to do that as a result of the weather which was raining really badly. This has caused a quiet major problem as we need to come up with a new date and time to visit the set again as it is not that easily accessible.
To resolve this problem, we plan to continue to shoot the remaining parts of the video and wait for a suitable time for myself and my partner to go again.

November 22nd:
 On this day, after college we plan to shoot the scene at Canary Wharfe, where the character in the narrative goes for his job interview.
That day we have to bring in extra costumes as he will be dressed smartly.

November 24th:
Wednesday again after college, we plan to do the scene at greenwich park or any other large parks within the area. We chose this time on purpose as we believe there will be a lot of people present at that time thus we can use or plan to ask some random people to be in the backround.

This is what is planned for the time being and we hope to shoot further as we gradually progress.

Possible locations and settings

Before we start to do our filming, we had to come up with some ideas of where it will be right and appropriate to shoot. We know that we have to choose our setting carefully as it cant be just anywhere and wherever we shoot, there has to be meaning and connotations.

These are just some of the ideas we came up with:

We have chosen these particular settings for our music video as we think that they are suitable for the narrative as they will give a clear linear narrative to the audience. Also these settings are linked with the emotions and mood of the scenes, for example, a scene at the park will reflect the romantic side of the scene.

aslo scenes such as the seaside reflect a romantic image and emphasises how lonly u can get if u fall out of love or lose your loved ones. Snenes with the big city buildings reflect the success of am person wich relates to our character as he achieves this in the end of our video

We have to choose the costume of the artist very carefully as it has to have meaning and relate to the narrative. Here are a few examples of what the character might wear:

This is an example of what type of jeans our character might wear. i have chosen this specific type as it is brandy and a bit funky similar to our character.

Again u can see that the colours of the costumes  stand out as the are fbight and flashy, also the colour red to symbolise love and romance.

You can see that accesories such as shades is essential for our character as it is associated with being cool and successful. It also has to be neat and not too cheesy as they are serious characters trying to give out a true and realsistic message about love

examples of chosen genre

We have chosen our genre to be associated the the theme of love and romance which falls under the genre of RnB/ pop. We did some research into similar Rnb songs and love songs. Our aim is to use a bit of the two diffrent type of genres and merge into one. These songs that we researched fit in with our genre as it expresses the idea of love which is what our music video intends to do.


Here is a few examples of some videos of our chosen genre. we decided to choose a romantic genre which can be categorized as pop or even RNB. However, we still havnt decided which one we will choose. these are examples of songs which are based around the ideology of love and have a narrative which is simple and clear to understand.



Neyo-So sick


This song by Neyo falls under the RNB genre and tells the story about him and the women he loves after they break up. The video uses typical iconography and settings fo a love song. For example,an apartment in the middle of the mountains which sets the whole romantic scene, just him and his lover alone. we also see various camera shots which shows both of them arguing which reflect the breakup. Also , a lot of close up shots are uswed to show the facial expressions and reveal the emotions. connotations for a romantic location include running around with his lover around a park and sitting next to the fire at home.


taylor swift- love story


This song by Taylor swift is also a very romantic song but targeting a more youger audience or teenagers. This video is set in a college and relflects the love life of a boy and a girl. the costumes they wear suggest that it is similar to romeo and juliet.. for example, the big dress she wears when she dances and secretly meeting up in the night to see her lover.




T Pain-im sprung


i chose this song by Tpain because it portrays the feminine side of an artist that deals with a hip hop/ Rnb genre. it shows the "cool" side of him as well as the sensitive side due to him falling in love. it portays the idea of love through the eyes of a "Hard man" for example, it shows how a man can change into a more sensitive and emotional person after falling in love even though he is thought to be a 'cool' person.


Drake-find your love



this is also similar to the song above as it shows the emotions of a rapper after falling in love. this video mixes the props and iconography of a rap song with a love song. For example it shows the 'rapper' side of Drake where he is hanging out with his gang in clubs whereas on the other hand, it shows the love story between himself and the women.

With the first one made in France in the 1960s, the Scopitone is a type of jukebox featuring a 16 mm film component. They were distributed on color 16mm film with a magnetic soundtrack, and were made to be shown on a Scopitone film jukebox.
